How to focus better
🍅 How the Pomodoro method works
- Pick one task.
- Focus for one session (25 minutes) — no email, no phone.
- Take a 5-minute break: stand up, look away from the screen.
- After four sessions, take a longer break of 15–30 minutes.
If a thought pops up, write it in the task list and get back to work.
⏱️ Which length to pick
25/5 is a good start and suits tasks you avoid. 50/10 suits deep work like writing or coding once you are in the flow. 90/20 matches a long deep-work block; use it once or twice a day. Shorter sessions (15/3) help on tired days or with young learners.
📵 Protect the session
Put your phone in another room or face down, close tabs you don't need, and tell people when you'll be free. Keep a notepad for “later” thoughts instead of acting on them.
☕ Use breaks well
Move, drink water, look out of a window. Skip social media: it makes it harder to start again. After a long break, first reread your task list.
📚 Studying?
Spend focus sessions testing yourself rather than rereading — try Flashcard Forge and the techniques in Memory Forge. Use a break to write down what you remember from the last session.
📈 Estimate and learn
Guess how many sessions each task needs. Comparing guesses with the real count, week after week, makes your plans more honest.
